*« Ave » is a Latin word, used by the Romans as a salutation and greeting, meaning « hail ». «Hail Caesar» was notably used to greet the emperor.

*The infamous Emperor Commodus, obsessed about being a performing gladiator, was known for his ego and considered himself superior to everyone. His battles were never fair against his opponents, only armed with a wooden sword. Fighting against beasts, he used to kill animals tied up and wounded just to show his skills as a fighter.

*During the reign of Nero, many high-ranking women took part in gladiator fights: they were attracted by glory, cruelty and danger. Many distinguished women disgraced themselves by showing up in the arena, to the point that some emperors had to ban their participation in the games.
