Poseidon has harbored a bitter grudge against Odysseus since the hero blinded his son, the Cyclops, earlier in his travels. Athena intervenes to save Odysseus from Poseidon’s wrath. Nowadays, the word Odyssey has come to mean a journey of epic proportions.
