*During the course of evolution, the nostril of dolphin moved towards the top of the skull in order to breathe at the surface without stopping swimming and without losing the underwater visual contact by getting the head out of the water. The dolphin breathes 1 to 4 times per minute, compared to 15 to 20 in humans. To be able to breathe, the dolphin opens its nostril and first expels the air from its lungs, before taking a big breath. The dolphin can hold its breath for 10 minutes.
